All of our Bird Vet Melbourne staff are well trained and experienced in the unique challenges that anesthesia and surgery of birds involves. The Avian Vets Anesthetic protocols are specially adapted to birds and use medications and equipment suitable for birds’ unique respiratory systems. The Chicken Vets do surgery on pet chickens very often. Chicken vet surgery for broken bones, and reproductive tract disease in laying hens are common.
Our Bird Hospital surgery is specially equipped with an array of instruments and equipment that are needed in undertaking fine work on tiny, and not so tiny, avian patients. To reduce risk of blood loss we routinely use micro-surgical techniques, fluid therapy and a radio-surgical unit. The bird hospital theater is heated, the bird pets get heated fluids, and are monitored in heated hospital cages after surgery.
